What happens in a session

Goals

We talk about and work on your overall sleep goal by exploring and focusing on smaller actions that you are able to do, can commit to and are motivated to do.

Progress

We keep track of your progress. I provide some education and we can explore other factors by looking at your whole life and use tools for awareness about what does or does not work for you.

Action

At the end of the session, you will have an action to work on for the week. We will check in with each other between sessions for accountability and to keep you motivated!

What a health coach is… and is not.

Health coaches are trained in lifestyle and behaviour changes for better health.

We use our coaching skills and knowledge to support and empower people with making lifestyle changes to improve their health and wellness.

We consider a broad range of lifestyle factors that support or undermine health (e.g., what, when and how you eat; whether and how you move; your sleep and rest; how you manage stress, etc.).

We acknowledge that each person is an expert on their own life.

We are non-judgemental allies who support, educate and motivate.

Health coaching is client-led and collaborative.

A health coach is not a medical doctor, therapist, counsellor, dietician or nutritionist.

About me

HCA Diploma badge Learner badge

I'm Amanda, I'm in my mid-fifties and I live in Kent, UK. I have a PhD in psychology and I'm a certified health coach.

I have first-hand experience of going from being fit and healthy to having physical setbacks. I started to struggled with sleep when I hit perimenopause and I have been an unhealthy weight. I understand the frustration of trying to sleep better and of getting fit and healthy again from a low starting point.

Over the past few years, I focused on three pillars of health: sleep, nutrition and movement. I explored what factors affect my sleep and I now sleep much better. I looked more closely at what and how I eat and drink and I'm back at a stable healthy weight. I got fit again by starting with baby steps which I did consistently and built up gradually. My greater interest in health led to training as a health coach. I now love supporting others so that they can feel great again too.

I empathise with how hard it can feel to start making changes but I know that small consistent steps and having guidance and support lead to better things!

Qualifications: Psychology BSc (Hons), Psychology PhD, Level 5 Diploma in Health and Wellness Coaching (Health Coaches Academy). CPD: RSPH Understanding Sleep, Sleep Disorder Awareness.

What clients say

"Amanda supported me to explore and refine what goals were important to me and think about how I might achieve them. Amanda was the perfect balance of permissive and supporting me to challenge myself. Amanda creates a warm and secure coaching relationship. The impact of these coaching sessions has been life changing."
"Amanda has been a really professional and helpful health coach for me. She is a good listener, compassionate and full of positivity. She was able to understand my issues and was confident in her ability to assist me in my wellbeing and health improvements.

I would completely recommend her to others as a health coach. She is knowledgeable, thoughtful and calm. She is able to succinctly express her thoughts and rearrange my jumbled thoughts into a structured plan! I look forward to our weekly sessions and I have no doubt the experience will continue to be very useful to me going forward with the plan."
"I would absolutely recommend Amanda. She has a lovely way of explaining the process. It was done in stages which was very helpful, as I felt there was a lot to learn… reducing my blood sugar is something I will continue. I have also reduced my caffeine and alcohol intake. I will keep Amanda informed of my progress going forwards! Thank you, Amanda, you have been brilliant."

"Since going through menopause my sleep quality and quantity had dramatically deteriorated and I honestly thought that I would never have a good night’s sleep again. I woke up at least once a night and I would regularly spend hours willing myself to go back to sleep, feeling anxious and jet lagged the next day. "

"But now, what an improvement! After 6 weeks of sleep coaching with Amanda I am delighted to say that I now regularly get 7 hrs of unbroken sleep, my sleep anxiety is gone, and I wake up refreshed and eager to start my day. "

"Amanda helped me to recognise the changes that I needed to make and gently coached me through the process at my pace. Amanda is very good at explaining the science behind the changes needed, which in turn makes them easier to implement. Her very kind and positive manner enabled me and kept me on track so that with 6 weeks commitment and trust in the process I increased both the quantity and quality of my sleep and now I actually look forward to bedtime. "

"I highly recommend Amanda and her Sleep Refresh course – it works!"

"Amanda was knowledgeable in helping me get a better undisturbed night’s sleep. We looked at the factors which may be causing the problems experienced and how I could help myself. I was committed and motivated to try what was discussed and over the weeks my sleep pattern has improved… Amanda is an enthusiastic, focused coach who is a listener and shows empathy. She is knowledgeable in the areas we discussed and her positivity reflected on me to keep me motivated. She supported me and suggested how to move forward."
